Wooly Pigs was formed to produce pork equal to Europe's best.
To this end, we imported a herd of Mangalitsa, one of Europe's best tasting breeds.
We also imported their techniques of raising the pigs, killing them and Austrian seam butchery (large PDF) experts to the USA, to train our processor, allowing us to produce unique cuts (large PDF) from our unique pigs.
We were the first to import Mangalitsa pigs to the Western Hemisphere.
Besides finishing our own pigs, Wooly Pigs sells breeding stock and neutered pigs to other producers. We help them produce the best Mangalitsa they can.
The enthusiastic and increasing embracement of Mangalitsa by some of America's most quality-conscious consumers demonstrates its exceptional appeal.
People buy Mangalitsa because it tastes wonderful. Properly raised Mangalitsa has incomparably juicy and flavorful meat and fat.

We help small family farms stay in business by paying them premium rates to raise Mangalitsa. Without a high-value niche product like Mangalitsa, these small producers might be unable to continue farming.
Buying Mangalitsa also helps to conserve the Mangalitsa breed, a breed that is fundamentally different from almost all pigs raised in America.
Wooly Pigs is owned by Heath Putnam.
Before founding Wooly Pigs, Heath lived for several years in Central Europe working in software and financial engineering. He has travelled extensively throughout the region.
After experiencing Mangalitsa while in Europe, Heath decided to bring Mangalitsa to the New World, knowing that many American consumers would find it irresistible.
Wooly Pigs is based in Washington. Our Mangalitsa live in Washington and the Midwest.
